💧 Wudu — Purification First!

Before Namaz

📖 Why Wudu?

Allah says in the Quran (5:6): "O you who believe, when you rise for prayer, wash your faces and your hands to the elbows, wipe your heads, and wash your feet to the ankles." Wudu purifies us before we stand in front of Allah.

Niyyah & Bismillah

Make intention in your heart for Wudu. Say Bismillah (In the name of Allah).

Wash Hands (3×)

Wash both hands up to the wrists three times, starting with the right hand.

Rinse Mouth (3×)

Take water into your mouth and rinse it three times.

Rinse Nose (3×)

Sniff water into your nose and blow it out three times.

Wash Face (3×)

Wash your entire face — from forehead to chin, ear to ear — three times.

Wash Arms (3×)

Wash right arm up to and including the elbow 3 times, then left arm 3 times.

Wipe Head (1×)

Wet your hands and wipe the entire head from front to back once.

Wipe Ears (1×)

With the same wet hands, wipe the inside and outside of both ears once.

Wash Feet (3×)

Wash right foot up to and including the ankle 3 times, then left foot 3 times.

🤲 Dua After Wudu:

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh

📌 Before You Begin

Face the Qibla (towards Makkah). Stand straight. Make sure you have done Wudu. Wear clean clothes. Pray on a clean surface (prayer mat). Make intention (niyyah) in your heart.

Niyyah — Intention

Make the intention in your heart for which prayer you are offering. You don't have to say it out loud — the intention is in the heart. But saying it aloud is a beautiful practice. All niyyah for all prayers are below! 👇

"I intend to offer two rak'at of Tarawih Sunnah for Allah, facing the Noble Ka'bah."

🕌 Namaz Steps — Continued

From Takbeer

After saying your Niyyah, continue with the steps below for every prayer. The steps are the same for all prayers — only the number of rak'at changes!

Takbeer Tahrimah — Start the Prayer

Raise both hands to your earlobes (for men) or shoulders (for women). Face your palms towards the Qibla and say:

اَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

Allahu Akbar

"Allah is the Greatest." — Now place right hand over left hand on your chest/navel.

Thana — Opening Supplication (1st Rak'at only)

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ

Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika wa tabarakasmuka wa ta'ala jadduka wa la ilaha ghayruk

"Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. Blessed is Your name and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You."

Ta'awwudh + Bismillah (1st Rak'at only)

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem

"I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan."

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Bismillahir-rahmanir-raheem

"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful." — Say this before every Surah in every rak'at.

Surah Al-Fatiha — Recited in EVERY Rak'at

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ۝ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ ۝ مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ ۝ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ ۝ اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ۝ صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ

Alhamdu lillahi rabbil 'aalameen. Ar-rahmanir-raheem. Maliki yawmid-deen. Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'een. Ihdinas-siratal-mustaqeem. Siratal-ladhina an'amta 'alayhim, ghayril-maghdubi 'alayhim wa lad-daaleen.

🌟 "All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship; You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path — the path of those You have blessed, not of those who earned anger, nor of those who went astray." — Then say Ameen quietly.

Extra Surah — In first 2 Rak'at only

After Fatiha, recite any Surah. The most common short one for beginners:

Surah Al-Ikhlas (Quran 112):

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ۝ اَللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ ۝ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ ۝ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ

Qul Huwallahu ahad. Allahus-Samad. Lam yalid wa lam yulad. Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad.

"Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah is Eternal and Absolute. He does not beget, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him."

Ruku — Bowing Position

Say Allahu Akbar while bending down. Place hands on knees with fingers spread. Keep back flat and parallel to the ground. Say 3 times:

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ

Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem (3 times)

"Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great."

Standing After Ruku (Qawmah)

Rise back up straight while saying:

سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ

Sami'allahu liman hamidah

"Allah listens to the one who praises Him."

رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ

Rabbana lakal hamd

"Our Lord, praise be to You." — Say this when fully standing.

Sujood — First Prostration

Say Allahu Akbar while going down. Place 7 body parts on the ground: forehead + nose, both palms, both knees, both feet. Say 3 times:

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى

Subhana Rabbiyal A'la (3 times)

"Glory be to my Lord, the Most High."

Jalsah — Sitting Between Two Sujood

Rise from sujood saying Allahu Akbar. Sit on your left foot briefly and say:

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاجْبُرْنِي وَارْفَعْنِي وَارْزُقْنِي وَاهْدِنِي

Allahummaghfir li warhamni wajburni warfa'ni warzuqni wahdini

"O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, strengthen me, raise me, provide for me, and guide me."

Then say Allahu Akbar and do the second Sujood exactly like the first.

Second Rak'at

Rise from second Sujood saying Allahu Akbar. Stand up. Do NOT say Thana or Ta'awwudh again. Begin directly with Bismillah → Surah Al-Fatiha → Extra Surah → Ruku → Qawmah → Sujood × 2. This completes the 2nd Rak'at.

Qa'dah — Tashahhud (After 2nd Rak'at)

Sit after the second Sujood of the 2nd rak'at. Put hands on thighs. Raise index finger when saying "Illallah" in Tashahhud:

اَلتَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ ۝ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ ۝ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ ۝ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat. As-salamu 'alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin. Ash-hadu alla ilaha illallahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh.

🌟 "All greetings, prayers and good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Peace be upon us and upon all of Allah's righteous servants. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger."

Durood Ibrahim — After Tashahhud (Last Sitting)

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ۝ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala aali Muhammad, kama sallayta 'ala Ibrahima wa 'ala aali Ibrahim, innaka Hameedun Majeed. Allahumma barik 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala aali Muhammad, kama barakta 'ala Ibrahima wa 'ala aali Ibrahim, innaka Hameedun Majeed.

🌟 "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Verily You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Verily You are Praiseworthy, Glorious." (Bukhari 3370, Muslim 406)

Dua Masura — Supplication Before Salam (Last Sitting)

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا وَلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman katheeran wa la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa anta, faghfir li maghfiratan min 'indika warhamni, innaka antal-ghafurur-raheem.

"O Allah, I have greatly wronged myself and none forgives sins except You, so grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me. You are the Forgiving, the Merciful." (Bukhari 834, Muslim 2705)

Salam — Ending the Prayer

Turn head to the RIGHT shoulder and say:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ

Assalamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah

"Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah."

Then turn to the LEFT shoulder and say the same. Your prayer is now complete! 🌟

📌 Important Rule

In 3-Rak'at (Maghrib) and 4-Rak'at prayers: After 2nd Rak'at, sit for Tashahhud only (not Durood Ibrahim). Then stand for remaining rak'at(s). Read only Surah Fatiha in the 3rd and 4th rak'at (no extra Surah). Final sitting: read full Tashahhud + Durood Ibrahim + Dua Masura, then Salam.

🌙 Witr — 3 Rak'at Special Prayer

After Isha

Witr is prayed after Isha. It has 3 rak'at. In the 3rd rak'at, after reciting Surah Fatiha + another Surah, say Allahu Akbar and before going to Ruku, recite Dua-e-Qunoot:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْتَعِينُكَ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَنُؤْمِنُ بِكَ وَنَتَوَكَّلُ عَلَيْكَ وَنُثْنِي عَلَيْكَ الْخَيْرَ وَنَشْكُرُكَ وَلَا نَكْفُرُكَ وَنَخْلَعُ وَنَتْرُكُ مَنْ يَفْجُرُكَ ۝ اَللَّهُمَّ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَلَكَ نُصَلِّي وَنَسْجُدُ وَإِلَيْكَ نَسْعَى وَنَحْفِدُ وَنَرْجُو رَحْمَتَكَ وَنَخْشَى عَذَابَكَ إِنَّ عَذَابَكَ بِالْكُفَّارِ مُلْحِقٌ

Allahumma inna nasta'eenuka wa nastaghfiruka wa nu'minu bika wa natawakkalu 'alayka wa nuthnee 'alaykal-khayra wa nashkuruka wa la nakfuruka wa nakhla'u wa natruku man yafjuruk. Allahumma iyyaka na'budu wa laka nusalli wa nasjudu wa ilayka nas'a wa nahfidu wa narju rahmataka wa nakhsha 'adhabaka inna 'adhabaka bil-kuffari mulhiq.

🌟 "O Allah, we seek Your help and ask Your forgiveness, and we believe in You and rely on You and praise You in the best way, and we thank You and are not ungrateful to You, and we forsake the one who disobeys You. O Allah, You alone we worship and for You we pray and prostrate, and towards You we strive and we hope for Your mercy and fear Your punishment. Verily, Your punishment will reach the disbelievers."
